Daire O’Shea
Daire O’Shea is a materialist sculptor and writer based in Cork. He graduated in 2016 with a BA in Sculpture from LSAD, following this in 2017 with an MA in Modern and Contemporary Art History and Theory from UCC. Post studies, Daire lectured in the art history department of UCC. He has exhibited sculptures across Ireland and the UK for the past decade and his work mainly concerns Object Oriented Ontology, language and the strange relationship between people and inanimate objects. He is also a freelance writer who has published articles on subjects including art history, philosophy, and custom motorcycle building.
Daire has been creating sculptures that interrogate the physical realities of objects, things, materials, and language for many years and has a constant preoccupation with form and physicality. Daire has shown materialist sculptures in solo, duo and group shows in The Limerick City Gallery of Art (2017), 126 Gallery, Galway (2018) The Library Project, Temple Bar (2018), Rua Red, Tallaght (2018), 46 Grand Parade, Cork (2019), The Complex, Dublin (2022), Platform Arts, Belfast (2022).
