Hilary Kinahan
Hilary Kinahan is an artist living in rural Ireland. Exploring landscape and place through a daily practice of walking the land, gathering found materials and photography is part of her art practice and research. In fact, her interests lie in the connection between memory and place, the cycle of life and nature. She regularly documents an ever-changing landscape through photography, drawing, painting and printmaking techniques. It is evident in her printmaking process that she is looking for a balance, between planning, following technical steps whilst also letting go and allowing the process to transform the ordinary into something transcendent.
As stated by the artist, this exhibition, RAPT, is “immersing myself in nature, adapting to the pace and all the changes each season brings to the landscape, and to me.” Kinahan’s work is taken from a collection of images documenting her life in rural Ireland. Having been raised on a farm in Westmeath surrounded by barns and boglands, she draws from these images to produce large scale etchings.
