Rosemarie Langtry

Rosemarie Langtry is a visual artist working and teaching in her studio based in Ballinahown on the border of counties Westmeath and Offaly.

She is inspired by the nature that surrounds her home in the heart of Ireland – particularly rural and bog-landscapes, found and corroded man-made objects, and the abundant waterways her native county is known for. These inspirations are reflected in her highly evocative work, which creates a strong, organic sense of place when viewed.

“Using found materials, soil, paper, exposing them to elements of rain, wind, and fire she actualizes the cycles of nature itself. From the bog to the hillside, she makes tangible and present the passage of time of the land she has come to know and love and shares with her community.” – Michael David, painter.

Rosemarie enjoys the challenge of experimentation with many mediums. “My work – Rosemarie says, – is an intuitive engagement with materials, and it is made with speed and spontaneity allowing the momentum to guide it. I work in many mediums: on canvas, paper, wood, and also in various sculpted forms. I always try to include something from the past to compel an audience and give an extra dimension to my art.”
