Artist Statement

My work is interdisciplinary and encompasses elements ranging from art, design, participatory processes and music.

The present line of enquiry in my work addresses an interest in a folk and craftwork aesthetic. I am compelled by the ways in which the handmade informs and deepens contemporary visual culture. This is something that resonates strongly with me. I enjoy a crudeness or awkwardness in the handling of materials and a certain hand-drawn quality which is not achievable through the use of computers. I use a variety of mediums to achieve this — drawing, painting, print & textiles to name a few. Nonetheless, I also mix in graphic elements in the making of my work from time to time. My intention is not always planned in advance of making the work, but it is revealed in the process of making.

I am also deeply interested in people, pattern and place and this has often led me to work in a collaborative and participatory way. I continue to develop my  artistic practice often focusing on narrative and changing scale and materials.  In doing so, I endeavour to address larger themes in an effort to remake and remodel history, thematically and practically.
