The Community Space at Abbey Road Artists Studios is a large multi-purpose space developed to support community engagement through creativity, culture and shared experiences. Located alonmgside the artist studios in the historic former workhouse building on Abbey Road, directly opposite Abbey Road Graveyard, the space offers a unique and inspiring setting for a wide range of activities.
The space can be adapted for a wide range of uses – from workshops, talks, and classes to community exhibitions, small performances, and community meetings. Its flexible design allows artists, cultural organisations, and local groups to shape the room to their needs, making it an accessible and practical resource for the people of Athlone and beyond.

The Community Space at Abbey Road Artists’ Studios is a bright, versatile, and fully equipped room designed to accommodate a range of cultural and creative activites. With flexible seating and layout options, it is perfectly suited for workshops, art classes, rehearsals, talks, and other community gatherings. The space is available for use by artists, cultural organisations, and local groups, providing an affordable and welcoming venue that encorages participation and connection. The community space plays an important role in linking the professional studios with the wider Athlone community ensuring that creativity accessible to everyone.
The space is bright and comfortable, heated by storage heaters and furnished with tables, chairs and benches. It includes a small kitchenette with a counter and sink, accessible toilets, and Wi-Fi access.
The capacity for the space is up to 15 people seated at tables, 30 seated and 50 standing.
The community space is situated on the first floor of the building. It is fully wheelchair accessible. To access via the lift, enter through the door on the front side of the building.
