Join artist Sian Costello for a half-day oil painting workshop at Abbey Road Artist Studios.
Focusing on the human figure and portraiture, participants will be guided in using alla prima (wet-on-wet) techniques on canvas to explore how to manipulate paint to sculpt and define form. The session emphasises observation, abstraction, and the translation of light, shadow, and colour into compelling figurative work.
Participants will be guided in using mirrors or photographic references as source material, inspired by Sian’s own practice with performative self-portraiture using camera obscura techniques.
Whether you are looking to refine your technical skills or deepen your understanding of the figure, this workshop offers a unique opportunity to experiment, observe, and create in oils under expert guidance.
Suitable for all skill levels.
Participants are advised to bring a photograph for visual reference, 1 primed canvas/canvas board 16×20″ or similar size, and some large brushes, including worn/ragged brushes.
All other materials are provided.
