Dublin based multidisciplinary artist Susan Buttner presents Orphaned from Belonging comprising of new sculptures, paintings, performance and sound, in the New Gallery space. Buttner’s practice poses “fundamental questions about the verbal difficulty of expressing pain and the ensuing political and perceptual complications that arise due to this difficulty.” This visceral work has an immediate effect upon the viewer, evoking reactions through the artists’ use of a wide vocabulary of deconstructed and reconstructed materials, modular objects and paintings, contrasting soft and hard, small and big, sharp and round, industrially manufactured with crafted tissues in a pared back palette. All of which, feed into her investigations of pushing boundaries and responding to bodily experiences of imposed force.
