Luan Gallery is operated by Athlone Arts and Tourism, a company established by Westmeath County Council. We are committed to the highest standards of transparency, accountability, and professional best practice across all areas of our work. Luan Gallery is funded annually primarily by Westmeath County Council and the Arts Council (exhibition programming), with additional income derived from funding partnerships, donations, and commercial activities.

Structure

Athlone Arts and Tourism is a private single membership company limited by shares and governed by a Board of Directors. It was established by Westmeath County Council to operate Luan Gallery, Athlone Castle and Abbey Road Artists’ Studios. Westmeath County Council is the sole shareholder. The Company Registration Number is 534679.

The Company files annual accounts with the CRO.

Board

The Board is committed to high standards of governance, transparency, and accountability. It provides strategic direction, supports the Gallery’s vision and mission, and oversees the effectiveness and activities of the organisation in collaboration with senior management. The Board of Directors and Company Secretary hold no interests in the company’s issued share capital.

An elected public representative since 2009, has served as Mayor of Athlone and Chairman of Westmeath County Council. A local business owner for 22 years and a Director of Athlone Art & Tourism since 2014.

Policies

  • To ensure fairness and transparency throughout the programming process, Luan Gallery engages an independent selection panel that acts as a steering group and meets at least twice annually with the gallery director and curator. The panel is composed of invited representatives with relevant arts expertise and includes a permanent representative from the Westmeath County Arts Office.
  • The Company reviews its organisational policies and Health and Safety statement regularly. The next review will take place in 2026. Copies of all policies are available upon request.
